5 Ways to Reduce Monday Anxiety

Does ‘Monday anxiety’ ruin your weekend? You are not alone, so many of us sabotage our relaxing Sunday’s by worrying about the busy work week ahead. We have created a guide for weekend tips that can set you up for Monday success.

1. Sleep! Most of us believe Sunday mornings are for sleeping in and being lazy. But, while there’s nothing wrong with extra rest, you can actually throw off your sleep cycle. Our bodies work best on consistent habits! It’s ok to sleep in for an hour or so, but any more, and it’ll probably be harder to get up on Monday morning.

2. Meal Prep. Popular for saving time and enjoying your favourites! A lot of our stress comes from feeling like there is never enough time in the day. However, you can avoid this by meal prepping on the weekends. And it doesn’t have to be anything extensive! Even whipping up one or two meals for the week can save you time in the kitchen on those hectic weeknights. Meal prepping allows for you to eat your favourite meals while predetermined portion sizes ensure you don't overindulge. Having a collection of well-balanced meals on hand will help you regulate what you eat and help you stay on track.

3. Relax! The weekend is to rest and reset. Wind down with some chill activities like yoga or reading a book. Rather than filling up every spare moment of the weekend with work, socialising, and everything else on your to-do list, make sure you schedule in time for yourself, too! It can help you not fixate so much on the stress of the week ahead! We know some people like to relax with a glass of wine... Or two over the weekend, however, too much alcohol can have you waking up in the morning feeling stressed before the week even begins, so try to avoid Sunday night drinking.

4. Avoid Over Scheduling Mondays. The best possible way to set yourself up for Monday success is to not overload your diary. Again, one of the reasons Monday is so daunting is because we feel like we have to get as much done as possible on Mondays… Nope! The more laid back, the more we can ease into our week and keep our energy levels steady - rather than burning out on day one!

5. Disconnect Over the Weekend. With most of us working from home now, it’s easy to feel like you can never truly switch off. This makes us feel like we have no free time. But guess what? Always being glued to our phones drains our free time, too! Before we know it, we’re hours deep in Facebook scrolling, wondering why the weekend keeps flying by. So try to put your phone down during your days off and connect with other things that really bring you joy, like spending time with family, getting outside, or whipping up your favourite recipe.
